LONG COVID

August 2022

Last year I treated one of my “old” patients who had developed Long Covid - and she got better. She had suffered the symptoms for 3 months before I started treatment and there were no signs of it abating.

The interesting point here is that I have been carrying out some research into one particular set of symptoms with a small group of patients, and I realised that there were marked similarities between Long Covid symptoms and my patients who had not had Covid. One of this group of patients has had all of the Long Covid symptoms, and more, for about 14 years.

The reason I have not yet published anything about this as yet, is because I am so nearly at a major breakthrough with what I am calling “Pinocchio Syndrome”. This name came about because the many and various specialist doctors who have seen this patient over the years refused to believe it was possible to have all the symptoms she was reporting. As a Chartered Physiotherapist, I need to be absolutely sure of my knowledge and clinical reasoning before taking on the medical profession with what I believe will prove to be a whole new “ball game” in medicine.

Back to Long Covid: I identified a musculo-skeletal problem that could be causing issues with the autonomic nervous system, that in turn was causing the symptoms of Long Covid.

I knew that the treatment protocols I use would not make the condition worse ie no side effects. So, with the patient’s consent I was very interested to see if my hypothesis was correct. She made a full recovery!

I have been a physiotherapist for nearly 50 years and all that time has been in the clinical setting treating patients! Now I have the time to bring together all the clinical expertise and research the underlying reasons as to exactly why these patients get better. I will be looking for funding once I have put all “my ducks in a row”. So watch this space!
